Our Pastor

Pastor John Herdman was born in West Virginia and raised in a Baptist preacher’s home. As a young man, he accepted Christ and during his first year of college, he surrendered to God’s call on his life. He graduated from Bible college in 1996. That same year, Pastor Herdman began serving on staff at his home church, Ripley Baptist Temple. He later ministered as an assistant pastor in Iowa before joining Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 2002. Following six years as senior pastor in Delaware, Ohio, he answered God’s call once again—this time to become the thirty-second pastor of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in 2020.

Pastor Herdman met his wife, Amy, in high school, and they were married in 1993. God has blessed them with three children: Jared, Madeline, and Allison. Together, Pastor John and Amy share a deep love for Northeast Tennessee and a heart to serve the Tri-Cities community. Pastor Herdman is passionate about preaching and teaching the Word of God. He carries a burden to reach this generation with the Gospel and has a genuine, God-given love for people. His desire is to build a Christ-centered community that glorifies God in all things. The Herdmans are grateful to be part of the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church and are eager to see how He will continue working in and through the church.
